Our Management Team is dedicated to ensuring the success of ViroStatics’ mission to identify, develop, manufacture and commercialize immunotherapeutic drugs to fulfill unmet medical needs in the fields of HIV/AIDS, viral infections and other global diseases.

FRANCO LORI MD
President and
Chief Executive Officer

He Founded ViroStatics srl in 2005, serving as President and Chief Executive Officer. With 20 years of extensive experience in Biotech management, Dr. Lori has successfully raised over $20 million and over €10 million to fund R&D in the HIV/AIDS field and has overseen the successful start-up of three biotechnology companies.

Dr. Lori also has experience in investigative preclinical and clinical research interacting with a network of clinical, pharmaceutical, government, and basic researchers in the US and Europe. In 2000, Dr. Lori was recognized as a "Hero in Medicine" for his achievements in HIV therapy. He has co-authored over 100 international peer-reviewed publications.

Dr. Lori received his MD from the University of Parma and earned his PhD at the University of Pavia, Italy. He was senior investigator in the laboratory of tumor cell biology at the National Cancer Institute before co-founding RIGHT in 1994, where he served as co-director.
     
     
MICHAEL STEVENS PharmD

He is the Company's Chief Strategy Officer, having joined ViroStatics in 2007 following a 17-year career with Bristol-Myers Squibb where he held positions in the areas of market research (Oncology and HIV), marketing (Oncology), and medical affairs (HIV).

As vice president, immunology medical affairs, he oversaw the operation’s medical information services, medical science associates, clinical intelligence, and Phase IV clinical trials in HIV/AIDS and participated in the franchise’s strategy, portfolio planning and policy development.

He has also served on 15 protocol committees within the Adult AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG). Dr. Stevens received his BS in Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from Purdue University.
     
     
SJLVA PETROCCHI

She has been the Chief Operating Officer at ViroStatics srl since 2007. She began her career in 1993 with SNAMPROGETTI S.p.A (ENI group) as Executive Secretary for an Algerian and French engineering delegation.

In 1995, she was given responsibility for all Chinese delegations of SNAMPROGETTI and was promoted to assistant manager of customer service. Ms. Petrocchi joined RIGHT in August of 1997 as Chief Administrative Officer in Italy with responsibility for managing all organizational and public relation initiatives.

In addition to her duties for ViroStatics, Ms. Petrocchi is also a member of the RIGHT Board of Directors.
     
     
JAMES CHAFOULEAS

ViroStatics' Chief Business Development Officer, has over 20 years of experience in leading drug discovery, business development and licensing projects in big pharma. Most recently Dr. Chafouleas served as head of global virology licensing at Boehringer Ingelheim Canada, with worldwide corporate responsibility for partnering and alliances in the therapeutic area of virology/infectious diseases.

Earlier, Dr. Chafouleas was associate director and senior investigator in the department of biological sciences before assuming business development/licensing functions and has held adjunct faculty positions at the University of Montreal and McGill University. He has authored over 50 publications.
     
     
RICHARD B. POLLARD, MD  
He has acted as ViroStatics’ Chief Medical Officer since December 2007. Dr. Pollard currently serves as the principal investigator of the immunology specialty laboratory, and chair of the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) laboratory evaluation subcommittee. He has been a leader in HIV/AIDS research for more than twenty years and been involved in the development of new therapies for herpes viruses, hepatitis viruses and HIV.

He completed medical school education at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, and is professor of internal medicine and microbiology and chief of the division of infectious diseases at the University of California Davis. Dr. Pollard has authored over 200 publications. 
     
     
JOHN KENNETH HAUTMAN, Esq  
He has been Chief Legal Officer for the Company since 2009.  He has assisted technology companies for over 25 years in the areas of intellectual property, corporate matters, fundraising, and business strategy. From 1993 through 2006, he was a senior partner and a co-head of the intellectual property practice for the international law firm of Hogan & Hartson LLP, based in Washington, DC.

He has co-founded two biotech firms and has extensive experience guiding technology firms through private placements. Mr. Hautman has led negotiations for a wide variety of business transactions in the areas of biotech, IT, genomics, and life sciences. Specific commercial transactions include the structuring and negotiation of joint ventures, strategic alliances, technology transfers and licensing arrangements. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia Law School.

Dr. Giustina Casu, after the Degree in Political Science-International Relation Studies at the University of Sassari she obtained a Master Degree in Management of non profit organization and social enterprises at the University of Trento. During the professional activity she moved from the first tasks as project planner and manager for projects for inclusion, training and job insertion of migrant women, to the professional experience in communication.

In 2005 she moved to South America, in Chile, where she started to develop her skills in communication, training, and translation. She joined ViroStatics in 2010, after the experience with Porto Conte Ricerche and the Journal of Infection in Developing Countries. The previous experience in social issues and communication led her to work as Web Content Editor, translator for English and Spanish language, as well as person in charge for activities related to media relations and scientific meeting organization.

Simona Caleffi joined ViroStatics as Accounting Director in November 2008. Prior to joining the Company, she worked for Avis Rent a Car for seven years as Key Account Specialist for Management and Customer Relationship Development.

ROBERTO PIRAS MBA
Director, Legal & Administration
 
Mr. Piras has extensive experience in business management and finance. Roberto is the founder and CEO of Kéynes, a company providing a number of services including granting credit, making strategic investments, the provision of banking facilities, and raising investment capital.
