Biomarkers
PHPC Assay
ViroStatics scientists have developed novel biomarker assays to document beneficial changes in key immunological responses against viral pathogens during therapy. One such test, an assay for precursor/memory T cells (Precursors with High Proliferative Capacity or PHPC) has demonstrated that increased numbers of these functional T cells correlates with the immune system's ability to control HIV replication (Calarota et al.
J Immunol 2008).
We believe the PHPC assay holds promise as a tool to evaluate emerging immunotherapies (including AV-HALTs, therapeutic vaccines and targeted immune amplification strategies) in the treatment of HIV/AIDS and other chronic diseases.
The Company is seeking a partner to successfully commercialize our novel diagnostic assays for both research and clinical applications.
Multiparameter Flow-Cytometry
ViroStatics scientists have designed flow-cytometry-based multi-parametric assays to monitor the therapeutic effects of AV-HALTs and therapeutic vaccines.
These approaches are a critical component of monitoring our clinical trials and also allow ViroStatics to perform effective screening of new AV-HALT drug candidates. The ViroStatics Flow Cytometry Unit is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation including the high-end BD LSR-II flow cytometer capable of providing simultaneous analyses for up to 14 parameters from a single sample.
The Company is now ready to provide the full range of flow cytometry analytical
services to external groups on a "fee for service" basis.
